Mixed media art installation on paper by Yuri Catania
L*3
- The installation of the unique tokenizable work in the context of the LUGANO NFT FEST 2023 event is donated to the City of Lugano. The intent is to share its artistic value and the opportunities related to Web 3.0 by promoting, through the digital currency of the City of Lugano, new ways of scalable collecting and participating in an exclusive club.
The 169 hexagonal cards that make up the work will be purchasable in their physical and digital form (NFT) during the event and the proceeds will be entirely donated to charity.
Description
- The work will be physically fragmented through detachable elements (hexagonal tiles) that will be inextricably linked to their digital twin NFT on the LUGA project blockchain. The narrative of the work continues Yuri Catania's exploration, intended to establish a romantic dialogue between nature and technology, putting plants and flowers on the same level in contact with the epic figure of our modern and future time: the astronaut.
The intent is to stimulate reflection on the vital importance that space and digital technology will have in preserving, with respect and protection, the biodiversity of our planet's ecosystem, already undergoing profound change, in which man, an integral part of nature, acts as a needle in the balance even in the future colonization of new planets in our solar system.
One of the key elements of our planet's biodiversity, and fundamental to the food survival of humanity, are insects, in particular bees. - These creatures, threatened by the wicked actions of our modern civilization, are fundamental and essential for the continuation of life, as we know it, on planet Earth.
Therefore, this installation intends to create a dialogue, almost a twinning, between man — represented by the astronaut — and nature, embodied by flowers and bees. The work presents a series of graphic elements that relate specifically to the place where it will be placed: room 15 of Villa Ciani.
The emblems on the astronaut's spacesuit symbolize the futuristic vision of the City of Lugano in the era of digital communication.
The work, being interactive, will initially appear as a large hexagon composed of 169 smaller hexagons, each 6 cm on each side, for an extension of 12 cm on both XY axes, which will cover the subject below almost entirely. - These hexagonal fragments, made of pressed cardboard, will have a gold-plated side, a tribute to the new infrared space telescope The James Webb Space Telescope, launched into orbit in December 2021.
The underlying side, on the other hand, will be the twin work on paper, fragmented into the 169 tiles that make up the large starting hexagon.
Each card, in fact a unique work signed by the author, can be collected individually and will in turn have a twin version digitized in NFT, certifying the work itself on the My LUGA blockchain. This NFT, in addition to creating an exclusive club of 169 owners of the work, will give access to a series of advantages in the City of Lugano through its possession. In addition, the amount collected for the purchase of each hexagonal fragment of the work will be used for a fundraiser, for which the My LUGA community will decide how and to whom to donate it.
