A living and open space where culture, science, art, technology and innovation come together

L*3
  • L*3 coordinated the study that led the Lugano City Hall to allocate 4.98 million francs to renovate the former PTT/Swisscom building in Viganello Lugano and convert it into the Atelier dei Venti.

Description

  • The study coordinated by L*3 aims to lead to the rehabilitation of Palazzo TAMI in Viganello (see location here), transforming it into a space open to exchange and discussion, with innovative and attractive contents linked in particular to science, art, digital innovation, research and training.

Lugano Living Lab, in collaboration with the partners USI, IDSIA, Ated-ICT Ticino, L'Ideatorio-USI and Impact Hub Ticino, has accepted and developed this idea that favors the active participation of citizens, associations, research centers, public and private companies present in the area.
  • The building designed by architect Rino Tami will host the Atelier dei Venti, an intergenerational and multidisciplinary space for activities dedicated to innovation, technology and society, with laboratories, artistic ateliers, a digital area, meeting rooms, workshops and much more.

The Atelier dei Venti will also work to support the training of social enterprises active in the area to promote employment and professional integration.
The former Swisscom building will also house the temporary headquarters of the services now located at the former Viganello Town Hall, which will be demolished in order to build the new school center.
  • In the future, these spaces will be made available for the development of the digital hub.
In the basement, on the other hand, the infrastructures of the City's data center will be located.

Authors

  • This project that the City of Lugano intends to develop stems from an intuition of Luca Maria Gambardella, full professor at the USI Faculty of Computer Science and member of the Dalle Molle Institute for Studies on Artificial Intelligence: to create a meeting place in Lugano where artists, scientists, writers and young people can discuss, share ideas, initiatives, proposals and skills.
  • “A physical place where the winds of science, art, culture and digital awareness can become a vortex, refreshing ideas and generating new ones.” The project is open and ready to engage with the neighborhood and its residents.
  • Lugano Living Lab — the City's urban laboratory, in collaboration with the partners Usi, Idsia, Ated-Ict Ticino, L'ideatorio and Impact Hub Ticino, has welcomed and developed this idea aimed at encouraging the active participation of citizens, associations, research centers, public and private companies present in the area.
