  • Lugano Living Lab accompanied the digitization of the Lugano Card, from the analysis of requirements, to technological discounting, identifying and implementing new solutions that led to the creation of MyLugano.
  • The smart use of blockchain technology has made it possible to combine the card with a digital wallet with a local payment token, creating an innovative loyalty system with benefits for those who buy and sell in the city. The project received the prestigious IEEE Smart City Award, winning the first prize as the most innovative technological project.

Description

  • MyLugano was founded during the delicate pandemic period, first as a booking platform to allow the management of public facilities and ensure social tracking and distancing and secondly as a measure to support the local economy. The project has taken up and transformed the Lugano Card by digitizing it and integrating it into a new app.
  • The smart use of blockchain technology has made it possible to combine the card with a payment wallet and to create a citizen loyalty system based on a local stablecoin called LVGA. By purchasing at a local affiliated store, users get up to 10% cashback, which is credited in the form of LVGA. The accumulated LVGAs can then be spent to make further purchases within the circuit.
  • The app encourages local shopping and allows you to have numerous city services at your fingertips. In addition to managing a payment wallet, the app allows you to book and purchase tickets for events and public facilities in the city and to consult an interactive map where you can find all the businesses that have joined the initiative: 400 bars, restaurants, shops, services and leisure facilities.

How it works

  • MyLugano uses the LVGA, the payment token of the city of Lugano, to create a concrete incentive and thus support spending in the city. Using the app, users receive a discount on every purchase made at a partner store. The discount called cashback is credited to LVGA by the merchant to the user directly in the store and through the app.
  • The accumulated LVGAs can be spent at the same time as the Swiss franc to make further purchases within the circuit. This mechanism rewards those who support local stores with their purchases and maintains the value of cashback in the city, thus creating a virtuous effect with positive repercussions on the entire city's economic circuit.
